Description of classes...

Central High School offers special education to students with emotional, mild, and moderate disabilities.  The classes are designed for those students who have been identified through testing and have a current Individualized Education Plan.

Emotional Disabilities

Level:  All Levels

Students who qualify according to the guidelines set forth by law are eligible. Content and mainstream courses are offered.  At the resource level, students receive study skills, anger management skills, and appropriate social skills.

Mild Disabilities

Students who qualify for this program according to the guidelines set forth by the law are eligible for this program.  The Mild Disabilities program serves the educational needs of the Learning Disabled and Mildly Mentally Disabled students.  A vocational curriculum is also offered and eligible juniors and seniors may participate in a work-study program.  Students will be included in General Education classes unless otherwise specified in their Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

Learning Disabled

Level:  All Levels

The Learning Disabled program offers learning strategy classes and ISTEP remediation classes.  Students are mainstreamed with paraprofessional assistance and co-taught classes.  The Learning Disabled program offers a resource room to meet the academic needs of the student.

MiMH

Level:  All Levels

The MiMH program serves the educational needs of the Mildly Mentally Handicapped students at the High School level and is designed to meet both academic and vocational needs of the student.

Vocational/Work Study

Level:  11, 12

A work study program is offered through the Special    Education classes.  A vocational coordinator and a job coach  work with students selected as candidates.  Students must take the classroom work-oriented course of study in conjunction with credit received for work release time.  This program is generally reserved for juniors and seniors.

Moderate Disabilities

Level:  All Levels

A self-contained classroom offers the moderately mentally handicapped teenage students educational services in the high school setting and participation in JET (Job Educational Training) within the community.
